Lane Adams Promoted to Assistant Vice President of Treasury and Financial Management at MSU

Jan. 22, 2025

Michigan State University (MSU) Finance today announced the promotion of Lane Adams to the position of Assistant Vice President of the Department of Treasury and Financial Management (TFM). This recognition celebrates Lane's outstanding contributions to the university's financial stewardship, particularly during her tenure as the interim director of TFM since July 2024.

A New Leadership Role

In her newly appointed role, Lane will continue to steer the daily operations of treasury services at MSU. This includes her pivotal role as the primary liaison between the university and its banking partners. She is responsible for managing operating cash flows, implementing strategic cash management initiatives, and overseeing the administration of the university's endowments. Additionally, her duties encompass managing debt to ensure compliance with financial agreements and issuing new debt to meet institutional needs.

Proven Expertise and Leadership

Lane's journey at MSU began in March 2009, when she joined the Treasury and Financial Management office. Her prior role as Senior Manager of Treasury Services provided her with a robust foundation in managing the university's treasury activities. Her exemplary performance in this position was a testament to her readiness for the interim director role, which she has navigated with significant success.

A Commitment to Professional Growth

In recognition of her leadership potential, Lane has been selected to participate in the 2024-25 cohort of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) Emerging Leaders Program. This elite program is dedicated to enhancing the capabilities of finance professionals in higher education, offering them tools and frameworks to further their leadership skills.

Quotes from MSU Leadership

She has consistently demonstrated an ability to manage complex financial operations strategically and with integrity." - Lisa Frace, Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Treasurer at MSU

"I am thrilled to see Lane step into this new role. Her insight into treasury operations and her commitment to the strategic goals of MSU make her an invaluable asset, and I look forward to the innovations she will bring to the team." - Rebecca Barber, Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis at MSU

Background and Achievements

Before joining MSU, Lane enriched her experience with diverse roles in corporate finance, including positions at a commercial real estate firm, a professional employer organization, and a global automotive parts manufacturer.

Academically, Lane holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from Walsh College, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2002. She further solidified her professional credentials by becoming a Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) in 2013.

Looking Forward

This promotion is not only a testament to Lane's hard work and dedication but also a reflection of MSU's commitment to nurturing and recognizing talent within its ranks. MSU Finance is incredibly fortunate to have Lane's expertise, vision, and leadership guiding our financial strategy forward.

Please join us in extending warm congratulations to Lane Adams on her well-deserved promotion. We are excited to see the continued contributions she will make in her new role.
